17 Things to Make You Smile

Happy Sunday! I hope you are enjoying a great day full of Jesus and family. What do you typically do on a Sunday?

Today I wanted to brighten your spirits! We all need a reason to smile sometimes. We can all use a little happiness in our busy and often stressful lives. Sometimes we get caught up in the chaos and the problems in our lives and forget to be happy and to remember the little things. That’s why I wanted to share 17 simple and easy ways to get your smile front and center!

  1. Buy yourself a new lipstick- A new lipstick always brightens my day and brings a smile to my face. How about you?
  2. Take a moment and read a chapter of the Bible- I suggest any of the Psalms, Exodus 14, or a chapter in Matthew.
  3. Stop and look at the flowers…literally- Sometimes even a glance at something beautiful like flowers can cause a smile on a hard day.
  4. Write a kind note to someone else- Remember that we aren’t the only ones that have hard days. So to cause a smile, try giving someone else some kindness!
  5. Take a walk and see Gods creation- When life is stressful, go for a walk and take a look around at God’s brilliant and beautiful creation. It always makes me smile.
  6. Have a Netflix marathon of your favorite funny movie or show- There is nothing in life that a Psych marathon or a few episodes of Everybody Loves Raymond can’t fix. Grab a snack, a blanket, and a crack a smile while laughing and enjoying your favorite show.
  7. Buy yourself a new outfit- Sometimes we need to spoil ourselves, so when life is tough go buy a new outfit and smile—show the world you’re in control.
  8. Pay it forward- Buy someone’s coffee or lunch! Spread smiles and happiness to others even when life is hard for us.
  9. Create something- If you paint—paint. If you make cards—make a card. If you write—write! Create something and I bet you will smile.
  10. Read a new book- For me, reading a new book (or a classic favorite) always tends to put a smile on my face.
  11. Take some time to yourself- Go get a manicure, a massage, or go have lunch on your own. Take a few moments to yourself to gather your thoughts and to relax.
  12. Have a worship service in your room- For me, nothing makes me happier than a worship session alone in my car or my room. God’s presence never fails to put life in perspective.
  13. Drink out of a fancy glass- Maybe this won’t make everyone smile, but it does me! There is nothing better than sipping tea out of a fancy wine glass.
  14. Spend time with loved ones- Show your family some love. Crack some jokes and love on each other.
  15. Talk with an accent- Some of the biggest smiles happen because my sister and I talk in fake accents while doing housework.
  16. Be intentional- Smile by being intentional. Love others, be caring, and have fun in life.
  17. Order a Venti instead- treat yourself and order a big coffee on those crazy mornings and smile because at least you have coffee!

Those are just a few ideas of things to do to make you smile. There is always something to smile about even on our darkest days. Jesus is always a reason to smile and have hope. If you don’t know about Jesus or salvation, I’d love to talk to you about it!

What are a few things that make YOU smile?? Let me know in the comments!

Local Holiday Night Out

Here in Oklahoma, we have the best of both worlds. We have a growing, fun city with local talent and nightlife but then we also have country and small town feels. I live in a small town but I am only 20 minutes away from the hubbub of Oklahoma City Downtown.

This weekend I headed off with my aunt and my sister for a fun holiday night. We wanted good food, great fellowship, and some Christmas decor and lights. We picked the right night to go, it was clear and a mild temp-perfect for shopping and looking at lights.

We headed to our favorite pizza stop in Midtown (near Downtown), Hideaway Pizza! There is nothing better than a hot fresh pizza on a cool night.

The street that Hideaway is located on is full of brightly lit shops. Most of them are full of sheet lights covering the entire front of each store. Beautiful multicolored, vibrant blue…you name it and they had it! edited1.jpg

Notice the famous “Devon Tower” is the bottom left corner
THEN. We stumbled upon the cutest little area I have ever seen. We found these little Holiday Pop Up shops that were little igloos. Talk about Christmas decorating. They were some of the cutest and well-known downtown and midtown shops in little pop up igloos. There was a music van, a Katiebugs drinks, and a bus that was converted into a bar.

Katiebugs is one of my favorite little food cart, specialty drinks truck. They were at the HP Festival with Butterbeer and they rocked the hot chocolate at these cute little pop ups. Not only did they have fresh and homemade hot chocolate but homemade marshmallows! dsc_0651dsc_0661

The marshmallow’s were jiggly, soft, light, and so yummy! I bought a vanilla bean marshmallow and added it my hot chocolate…I’m still dreaming about it.

Finally, we ended up at the famous red ornaments at the bottom of the Devon Tower, so naturally, we had to hop out of the warm car for a photo! Now, the temp was fine but a big storm was starting to come through and the wind was RIDICULOUS. But the pictures were great nonetheless. edited4

PS, I splurged on this hat at one of the pop up igloos.
I loved this impromptu holiday night spent with some of the best people in my life. We couldn’t have had a better night. What do you like to do around town on a holiday night out?? Let me know!

Staycation 2016

After sharing my favorite “Vacation Spots” I wanted to give you a little insight into what my staycation looked like. When you don’t have enough money to go on an actual vacation that doesn’t mean there’s no vacation.

I sorted through Groupon and other sale websites and found a hotel for a really good price. My sister and I set off down the road and spent two nights away from home and work- relaxing and “staycationing.” We tried to go and do things we don’t ever do on normal days which gave the getaway a more vacation feel. Here are a few of the highlights from our getaway.

Swimming {of course}

The hotel we stayed at had a gorgeous outdoor pool hidden in the middle of trees and flowers. I felt like I was on an island somewhere not in OK. The water as cool and crisp which felt amazing in contrast with the harsh and HOT sun. For the great price we paid, this pool was incredible and luxurious.

All About Cha- Stylish Coffee and Tea

I found this ADORABLE coffee and tea shop and knew we had to try it!! I believe I found my new favorite spot to write, read, and drink. With a Korean flare, All About Cha is nothing like your typical Starbucks. We got a few things and shared them: fruit filled crepes, chicken croissant, and I enjoyed an iced caramel macchiato. All of which was tasty, indulgent, and extremely yummy! The decor of the place was probably one of my favorite aspects of it.

Lake Hefner Photo-shoot

Hefner Lake is a small lake in OK that many people sail and wind-board on during the summer. My sister and I splurged on one big fancy meal so we could look out over the lake. I have always loved this little pier and I couldn’t resist taking some photos of it. DSC_0871 (2)

Roxy’s Ice Cream Social

I think this might have been the cutest little stop on our staycation. I had been wanting to stop by and try this little gem….and it was so worth it. Set up with bright, vibrant colors and a old fashion looking bar, this ice cream shop makes you feel like you stepped back into a technicolor ice cream parlor. They have floats, dips, cones, and even ice cream sandwiches. The place never had a short line, it was packed and I understand why. If you live or visit OK, go check it out!

Wheeler Farris Wheel

The Wheeler Ferris Wheel is a new addition to the Oklahoma downtown scene. It was closed, but we got to stop and still take some beautiful photos of it. I can’t wait to actually ride it, but the pictures are beautiful {if I say so myself 🙂 } It’s going to be a great new place for OKC. DSC_0904 (2).JPG

I love going on adventures with my sister…especially when they don’t cost too much money! What is your favorite thing to do on a staycation?? IMG_3768 (2)

June Favorites 2016

Happy 4th of July! I hope you are off celebrating with friends and family with good food and fireworks. Its hard to believe that June has already came and gone; but hello July!

Today, I wanted to share my favorites from June; most of which is makeup this month. In June I really found myself going back to the same makeup items numerous times so I had some CLEAR favorites this month. jlk;jl.jpg

Beauty Favorites

Gwen Stefani Urban Decay Palette

DSC_0801 (2).JPGI bought this for Christmas for myself just this past Christmas. I shared it in my January Favorites but this month I have been living it again and again. I use a good deal of the colors in the 15 shadow palette. I love to do a purple/pink eyelid with a little grey on the outer corner. I’ve pointed out my favorites below! Top Row: Bathwater and Steady / Middle Row: Baby and Serious / Bottom Row: Pop. kjv.jpg

Smashbox X-rated Mascara

DSC_0811 (2).JPGMy mom received this in her June Ipsy and we traded because I had really been wanting to try a new mascara. Holy Cow! I am in love with this mascara. It’s been a long time since I found a mascara that lengthens my lashes like this does. I am highly considering buying a full size; this is why I love Ipsy. I get to try out smaller sizes before I commit to buying. DSC_0816 (2).JPG

Maybelline Fit Me concealer

DSC_0818 (2).JPG I did a recent review on this and the foundation and I still really enjoy using this concealer. It has fairly good coverage and good staying power. I am using the shade “fair” but I am thinking about using a lighter shade for just my under eyes to really brighten them. I recommend this concealer for a good drugstore concealer.

Makeup Revolution Iconic 3 Palette

I picked this up a while back because it looked like a good dupe for Naked 3 palette and I adore it. There are some really gorgeous shimmer shades in corals/pinks/purples. This month’s makeup has been full of this palette. The shimmery colors are great for a simple one shade on the lid look as well. Below are swatches of my favorite shades: lkj.jpg

NYX Matte bronzer

DSC_0825 (2).JPGMatte bronzer is my go-to for contouring. Because I like a shimmery blush and highlight, I do not like a shimmery bronzer. At Ulta a month or so ago I was searching for a new contour shade and picked up this gem. There’s nothing special to it-but its great! A simple powdery matte bronzer to do some contouring with. The color pay off is just enough that with a light hand it goes on perfectly. I use the shade “light.” DSC_0827 (2).JPG

Kate Spade “Be Dazzling” Iphone case

Purchased from Poshmark, I have been using this adorable case all month. It is a gold glitter silicone case with the words “Be Dazzling” and I feel like it was made just for me! I was so glad I found this on Poshmark and it was only $10 with shipping included. It has been a June must!

Zoella Beauty Makeup Bag

DSC_0796 (2).JPGMy parents bought me this adorable makeup bag for Christmas and I have been using it since. Zoella is a Youtuber who has her own beauty line and this is one of her popular bags. This fits almost all of my makeup but it is extremely snug. This makeup bag is perfect, sturdy, and super cute. I am only changing out of this one because I got an adorable new one for my birthday {Come back tomorrow to see it}. All June however, this has been my go-to makeup case.

The 5th Wave

I saw this movie for the first time this month and I have been obsessed with it all month long. I enjoyed the movie and am now reading through the book (which I am sure is much better).

What have you been loving the last month?? Let me know below. XO

Birthday Wishlist

Hello friends! I hope your week went well, and if not, cheer up-it’s still the weekend! For today,  I thought I would share my birthday wishes. The favorite products and things I’ve been wanting be for my birthday!

Thursday, I’ll be another year older. I’ve always loved celebrating my birthday, I mean, who doesn’t right? It’s funny how our favorites and wishes change as we age. I went from asking for my favorite doll to my favorite purse. One things for sure, I’ve always been a girly girl. And my wishlist shows it. So here are my fav items that are on this years birthday wishlist!

Kiss Pillow in gold from At Home// Have you ever heard of At Home? It’s incredible. I love it. It is for all things home; from frames to side tables they have everything and they are fairly reasonably priced. This pillow would look ah-mazing in my room, just saying!

Swamp Queen Palette by Tarte// Grav3yardgirl aka Bunny is a popular YouTube personality who is quirky and love-able. She is not afraid to be crazy and herself. Bunny is a great influence for people because she is always supporting being yourself. Tarte and Bunny did a beautiful face palette collab and I want it. It is at the tip top of my list. They are gorgeous shades that look exactly like what I want to wear.

Cedar Street Rose Maise by Kate Spade// spoiler alert…I may have just ordered this as a gift to myself. BUT it was already on sale plus another 30% off and free shipping, so I had too, right? Happy Birthday to me!

Harry Potter Clue// yes, it’s actually a thing! I recently saw this at my local Barnes & Noble and knew I just had to ask for it. Clue was always my favorite board game and I love HP just as much; the two combined are just a match made in heaven. I love a good ole family game night and I hope I can play this soon! (hint hint mom…)

Gold mirrors from Walmart// I am currently redoing my room and adding some more sophisticated touches to it; including all things gold. I found these mirrors at Walmart and I fell in love with them. I have a wall of frames and canvases and these would look perfect spread throughout them!

What would you ask for your birthday if it was coming up?? Let me know down below! XO

Family Fun Day

Good evening friends! I hope you are enjoying this beautiful first day of Spring. In Oklahoma, this past week was the majority of schools’ Spring Break vacation. Being that my dad and sister work and I am no longer in school “Spring Break” means nothing to us.

However- last year, we headed off the Sunday of break to a local hot-spot called Pops.

Pops is a landmark stop on the famous Route 66! As packed a lunch and drove up there to score some yummy shakes and random pop. Pops is known for having over 700 different kinds of pop from Ranch flavored soda to good ole root beer. This year we decided to make it a tradition. We went up to a new location of Pops that has recently opened to spend the day as a family.

My family enjoyed each others company and some yummy burgers. I have always enjoyed spending time with my family. We are extremely close and we honestly love doing anything together. I forget how much fun it is just to head off to a place we’ve never been in our city. I thought I would share a few of my favorite shots of the day.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I decided on a delicious burger with bacon & blue cheese and I sipped on a frosty root beer. We each picked a soda to drink tonight while we watch a movie together. (I picked a orange soda and a Dublin Ginger Ale…I couldn’t decide on which one)

Don’t forget to hold your family close and spend time with them! Do you and your family do anything fun? Give me some ideas! Be back tomorrow for an exciting Makeup Monday post!

Redefine the Image

The other night, I was sitting in my bed about to head to sleep and God came and interrupted my life in a beautiful way. It was like I got hit in the head, God opened my eyes to this revolution I need to be spreading. I kept thinking these three words… REDEFINE THE IMAGE.

The way I see myself is horrible and I can all but guarantee I am not the only one who feels that way about themselves. Our society has taken the image of a successful and worthy woman and morphed it into something far from what Christ would claim as worthy. Size, relationship status, money, clothes, talent, and looks…all these things are what our society has given us as the image of a woman worthy of love, success, and encouragement.

I’m here to tell you something… we need to REDEFINE THAT IMAGE.  Our lives are not worthy because we are skinny, tall, rich, in a long term relationship, or anything else. Girls and women are constantly not living up to the standards that the world has presented for them and the standards they set for themselves because the image we long for is not the image Christ longs for us to be.

My heart cries for myself to see myself the way Christ sees me. He believes that I am beautiful, capable, worth the wait, and worthy of much more than I let myself believe. I long to look at myself and be thankful for the image I see, the image of Christ; but instead I am tied up on worldly aspects of my life-like my size and relationship status that reads single. I believe that God has incredible things in store for me and for you…we just need to understand that We are his beloved.

Psalm 18:19…”He rescued me because He delighted in me…”

Holy cow! Christ, the Savior of the world, delights in me. THAT is the image I want to see when I look at myself…not self-hate because of the world standards that I can never live up too.

Want to join me in my pursuit to REDEFINE THE IMAGE…I hope you do. Christ loves you more than anyone ever could. You are loved, wanted, worthy, and beautiful; these are the images we should see when we look at ourselves.

Jeremiah 31:3… “I have loved you with an everlasting love…”

God notices you. He wants you to see yourself through HIS eyes. In a bethel song called “you don’t miss a thing”—there’s a line that says, “In a crowd of ten thousand, you don’t miss a thing.” God is always there. And I don’t believe that he wants us to imagine these “perfect” people in society as the image that we should be…I believe that he longs for us to see himself when we look at ourselves.

Join me in this movement…as I daily try to REDEFINE THE IMAGE of what I should look and be like into what Christ sees when he sees me. Use #redefinetheimage in pictures, tweets, and posts!
