Christmas songs are such a vital part of my Christmas holiday. I love music, that should be no surprise. I’ve shared a few of my favorite Christmas albums in the past but this year I wanted to share my top 10 Christmas songs.
Now, I’ll be honest, my favorite Christmas songs probably change frequently. So this list is a mix of old, lifelong favorites as well as a few that I’m just currently loving right now. Some of these will probably be songs some of you have never even heard, so I encourage you to take a listen! Each one will be linked in the title! Some of these songs are also sung by numerous artists and bands but I’m sharing my exact favorite version or artist.
Also, keep reading and see my current Christmas Spotify Playlist, including all of these songs!
Top 10 Christmas Songs | Blogmas 2021 Share on XTop 10 Christmas Songs
#1 Season of Love | 4Him
This song is one I remember so vividly from my childhood. My parents played this song every Christmas. 4Him is an old Christian band that was popular in the 90s. I still listen to this song every year- it isn’t Christmas without hearing it a few times. I first mentioned this song in my Top 4 Christmas Albums from a previous Blogmas. Even though it is old, I think this song has such an important sentiment- it is something we still need to hold onto today.
The season of love, I really believe that this world would be much better and people would come together, if we share the reason for the season of love. The spirit of Christmas, it can change this world forever, if we all will play our part just by giving from the heart, I know Christmas will really become, the season of love
#2 Mary, Did You Know? | Pentatonix
This song is incredibly popular and there are hundreds of versions of it. I think one of the most famous versions would have to be the Pentatonix version. I love acapella music and was so glad when they released a whole Christmas album. The song holds a great message and their acapella voices just sound incredible on this classic song.
Mary, did you know that your baby boy
Will give sight to a blind man?
Mary, did you know that your baby boy
Would calm a storm with His hand?
#3 I Believe | Natalie Grant
I love the whole Christmas album that Natalie Grant relased- it has some great songs on it. But one of my absolute favorites is the song “I Believe.” For me, Christmas is so much more than a holiday about presents or santa, for me, it is about celebrating Jesus who came as a baby to save us. It is so easy to forget why we really celebrate and this song is a great reminder. It is powerful and such a great one to listen to. Because He came in a manger, He also went to a cross. Jesus was sent here as a lowly baby to save me, even in spite of all my sin- and you too!
I believe in a cross
I believe He came for one, He came for all.
Heaven’s Child became a Man
He gave His life for me in spite of all I am
I believe, Christmas lives in me, I believe
#4 This is Christmas | Plus One
Another great song from my childhood. Plus One was my first real concert that I went to as a girl with my mom, sister, aunt, and cousin. I was smitten. Plus One was a very popular Christian boyband. Their whole Chrisstmas album is great but this song in particular just puts me in the spirit of the holiday. I think mainly because it brings back so many great memories of Christmases past. Definetly listen to this one if you’ve never heard it!
This is Christmas,
Hallelujah’s echoing tonight,
Now everything will be alright,
Celebrate our saviors here
This is Christmas
#5 Last Christmas | Keith Harkin (Celtic Thunder)
“Last Christmas” is obviously pretty popular. Everyone has their own version but I specifically wanted to highlight the version sung by Keith Harkin of Celtic Thunder. My dad absolutely loved Celtic Thunder. Him and I even saw them live in concert when I was a sophomore in Middle School. My dad and I spent many hours singing their songs and watching their taped specials on TV. Keith Harkin sang this song for one of the filmed concerts we bought and I have loved it ever since. I can’t find a version on iTunes so I was so sad…but I can listen to it on Youtube. And I get to see Keith’s face while listening so it is a win-win.
Once bitten and twice shy
I keep my distance, but you still catch my eye
Tell me, baby, do you recognize me?
Well, it’s been a year, it doesn’t surprise me
#6 Simple Little Christmas | Anthem Lights
If I could give an award for best Christmas music video, this would win. I’m sure not everyone would find it as funny as I do…but seriously, go watch it. Overall it is just one of my favorite Christmas songs. It is catchy, and has a great beat. It is sung by Anthem Lights, another Christian boy band (are you seeing a pattern here?). It is such a great, lighthearted song!
Just wanna simple little Christmas this year
Just wanna hold you by the fire
Be your holiday cheer
The tinsel and lights and presents are nice
But if you’re asking me
Baby I got all I need
When you are here
Just wanna simple little Christmas this year
#7 Joy (to the World) | Avalon
The song “Joy (to the World)” is another great song I remember from my childhood. It was hard to find a great video of it because it was originally released in like 2000. Avalon was a really popular Christian band that I listened to growing up and this song was always my favorite from their Christmas album. Anyone else ever listen to Avalon??
Stop in the hurry of Christmas
And listen for the angels call
Stand in the quiet and hear his voice
#8 Be Born in Me | Francesca Battistelli
If you’re looking for a powerful song about the true meaning of Christmas, look no further than this song. It was originally released on an album that was all music inspired by the Bible. So there were songs from different Bible characters’ points of view. This song was written from Mary’s (the mother of Jesus) point of view. Similar to “Mary, did you know?” this song highlights all the things that Mary might have been thinking as she carried Jesus. I wish I could accurately describe how powerful this song is but you’ll just need to listen to it to see what I mean. And I mean really listen. It still gives me goosebumps!
Be born in me, be born in me
Trembling heart, somehow I believe
That You chose me
I’ll hold you in the beginning
You will hold me in the end
Every moment in the middle
Make my heart your Bethlehem
Be born in me
#9 It Came Upon a Midnight Clear | Jordan Smith
I would say that this song is a newer favorite. It is one of those Christmas songs I’ve heard for years but recently really loved listening to. Jordan Smith has such a great voice and his whole Christmas album is incredible…but this song is one of my absolute favorites from that album. While it might not be the most popular, I consider it a classic Christmas song.
Peace on the earth good will to men
From Heaven’s all-gracious King
The world in solemn stillness lay
To hear the Angels sing
#10 A Strange Way to Save the World | 4Him
Lastly, I had to end on another song that is from my childhood. Another great 4Him song. I think I love this because it has an incredible message of Christmas but it also reminds me so much of great Christmases as a child. I think all Christians can look at Jesus coming and being born as a normal boy, in a lowly manger as something a little strange. It isn’t what you would think for a King…but Jesus still saved the world. This song is all about that.
Why me, I’m just a simple man of trade
Why Him with all the rulers in the world
Why here inside this stable filled with hay
Why her, she’s just an ordinary girl
Now I’m not one to second guess
What angels have to say
But this is such a strange way to save the
World
