12 verses to read when you feel life is falling apart

Life is tough, I know it is. If you’re reading this maybe you feel like your life is falling apart. Maybe you just lost a family member, got fired, lost a baby, etc. I can say one thing for sure, God is near to you. Even in the midst of our darkest days, God is there.

I have been where you are, and still am in many ways. Whether you are dealing with grief, depression, anxiety, pain…these verses are for you. So often we look to friends or family to “say the right thing” when the only things that can help are written in the Word of God. The Bible is full of peace and strength for us if we use it.

These are verses that have helped me and my family. I have prayed them in the shower, on my knees in an ICU room, and in my mind every time Satan tries to bring anxiety into my heart. I personally am trying to teach myself to turn to God first, and one of the ways to do that is to constantly be thinking about His word. These verses are verses that have got me through the last year. Only God. I pray that these help you as well. If you feel like your life is falling apart, turn to God. Claim these verses over your life and situation.

12 verses to read when you feel life is falling apart

Romans 8:26

26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.

Isaiah 41:10-13

10 fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.   11 Behold, all who are incensed against you shall be put to shame and confounded; those who strive against you shall be as nothing and shall perish. 12 You shall seek those who contend with you, but you shall not find them; those who war against you shall be as nothing at all. 13 For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you.”

Proverbs 16:9

9 The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps

Philippians 4:6-7

6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Nahum 1:7

7 The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him.

Psalm 61:1-4

1 Hear my cry, O God, listen to my prayer; 2 from the end of the earth I call to you when my heart is faint. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I, 3 for you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the enemy. 4 Let me dwell in your tent forever! Let me take refuge under the shelter of your wings!

Jeremiah 29:11-13

11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare[b] and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. 12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. 13 You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.

Psalm 3:3

3 But you, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head

Matthew 11:28-30

28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Deuteronomy 31:8

8 It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.

Micah 7:8

8 Rejoice not over me, O my enemy; when I fall, I shall rise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord will be a light to me.

Psalm 119:50

50 This is my comfort in my affliction, that your promise gives me life.

What verses do you turn to when life is hard and feels overwhelming? These verses are full of Gods peace and comfort- let those sink into you today!

I really need these verses. I have lost everyone in my life including my only child and husband! I have chronic illnesses now. How can a loving God allow all this suffering and become ill? Have no money? So despondent.

First off I’m so sorry for all your suffering, I can’t imagine. I have faced a lot of loss as well and I can admit it made me question the same thing you mentioned. I just know that God isn’t spiteful or hateful. He doesn’t do thing to hurt us. We live in a fallen world and because of sin in our world we face hard times. But God offers such comfort and peace when we truly seek Him. It’s a hard question to answer and I’ll admit I don’t have the exact answer to explain. But I do know that God has never abandoned me even in the midst of my suffering. And my suffering has brought me even closer to Him.
Prayers to you my friend. I hope you find peace in Him tonight.

To all those on this platform thank God today for the wherewithal to share with one another. Each story is different and allows us all to feel we are not alone. Thank you for the scriptures they strengthened me. I can’t sleep 🛌 feel like my life is not worth living. My joy is numb. I can hardly enjoy the few things and people I have left In my life. But I don’t blame God. Thank just wish things were much more fruitful for me like I see in everyone else’s life. This life can be hard and acceptance can be a test we have to take until we pass without bitterness. I’m hurting but I want to help someone else who’s hurting too. God bless everyone especially the host of this platform. You are all in my prayers going forward.

Thank you for this. So much coming at me right now; going through a divorce I did not want; putting up with slander and gossip; having my own kids being turned against me, and feeling powerless to do anything about. Then worst of all, I started feeling SORRY for myself, which is the absolute worst…so I googled this. And then I felt mildly ashamed for having been tempted to despair. You chose your verses well, for I was reminded of God’s promises to those who remain faithful to Him. God bless you.

Thank you so much for this beautiful, soulful, wonderful, blessed worshipful place! I feel so blessed that I happened upon this! Such peace just reading along that I just want to keep reading for a bit. I want this to be my relaxing place that I go to after a long busy day. I was looking for the Biblical topics for my granddaughter to help her find Bible references to read. I found this and I will refer her to this instead. This is so nicely done! God bless you for being a blessing to so many.
