Closer

Closer to His heart

We seek for love, we seek for acceptance, and we seek for meaning. We spend time growing closer to friends, family, and sometimes evens strangers. We earn for love, for contact, and to fit in with our crowd. But how often do we seek God, grow closer to Him, and earn for His presence.

I, for one, am so guilty of this- I want to impress the world, I earn for a perfect life, and yet…I seem to be content with surface level Christianity sometimes. I fail when it comes to seeking Him continually and I’m sure I’m not the only one.

As I have been pondering all this, one of my favorite verses quickly came to mind,

“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13

Sometimes we get mad when God doesn’t appear to show up in the time or the manner in which we were expecting. We just expect Him to do everything we want right when we want it. We don’t understand why we fee distant with Him when we haven’t even opened His Word in days. I love this verse because we see that WE are to SEEK Him, and seek Him with everything we are and everything we have. I believe we seem to forget this verse; we read the verses before it- that God has a plan for us to prosper and give us hope. But the verse almost immediately following that is showing us HOW to see God. We see the blessing that verse 11 offers us and we stop.

My prayer lately is to want more of God. More of His Word. More of His presence. More of Him. I don’t want to be complacent with surface level Christianity…I want a real relationship with Him.

As I continued to think on this topic, the song “Closer” by Bethel was immediately brought to my mind. If you’ve never heard it, I encourage you to take a minute and listen. I will leave below the video I listen to most of the time of Kari Jobe singing the bridge and chorus-my favorite parts of the song.

The chorus of the song is my hearts cry and I hope it is yours as well.

Pull me a little closer
Take me a little deeper
I want to know Your heart
I want to know Your heart
`Cause Your love is so much sweeter
Than anything I’ve tasted
I want to know Your heart
I want to know Your heart

Is this our prayer? Do we live like this? I know many times I don’t. But this song is the anthem of what my heart is desiring. I want to be pulled deeper. Deeper. I want to walk into those waves with no fear. I want to know God as much as humanly possible, to go deeper, and yearn for Him. I want to desire His presence more than anything else. This world does nothing to please this part of our hearts- God alone can satisfy. I pray that I crave, earn, and dig deeper everyday.

I want to walk into those waves with no fear. I want to know God as much as humanly possible, to go deeper, and yearn for Him. Share on X

Gods love for us is great and He deserves our best. He deserves for us to cry out to Him to want to be closer. He deserves our praise, our trust, and our lives. I want Him to pull me closer and let me sit at His feet. His feet are where we lay down our trials and our burdens.

I hope our prayers are asking God to help draw us closer. Because spoiler alert, He is always ready, always waiting, and always wanting us to draw closer to Him and to sit in His presence.
