Guess what?? It is opening week for Mockingjay part 2 here in Oklahoma, and I could not be any more excited. I am a complete fan-girl of The Hunger Games, Harry Potter, and Twilight. So to honor this exciting moment, this week I will be featuring some fun blogs about The Hunger Games series. Today is about my favorite character.
Peeta. Peeat Mellark. The man I would very quickly give my heart too if he were real. The man I want so desperately to be real. I am die hard, no if’s and’s or but’s team peeta fan. {This post will most likely cause my some flack from some die hard Gale fans, bring it on!} Peeta is not only my favorite HG character but probably one of my favorite literary characters of all time.
Peeta is strong, caring, and he has a beautiful soul. He loves Katniss with a fierce passion that is so wonderful. I love Peeta because I feel like he is the misunderstood, soft, and slightly sensitive guy among the many strong and overly aggressive men. Peeta is often overlooked as a competitor I think; compared to Gale or Finnick–Peeta is easily forgotten. But what Peeta brings is a calmness and a love that is sacrificial. He is the dandelion in the field.
Many people think that if he loved Katniss he would have let her be happy by being with Gale, but I think that exact thing happened it just wasn’t as obvious. In Catching Fire, Peeta’s momento is a locket with her mother, prim, and Gale’s picture in it. I think this was his way of saying, “I want you to be happy and Gale can give you that. I want you to live, be the victor, and go home and live a real life.”
Sometimes love is not about who is the strongest or the most impressive. Peeta might not have been as strong or brawny as Finnick but he did everything he could to protect Katniss. This is the man that wanted himself dead so she could live, the man that took a slap to give her bread, the man that loved her despite her insecurity in herself.
Mockingjay part 1 hit me in all the feels, if I may sound like a teenager for a second. Hijacked Peeta is so hard to see. But, Peeta continues to try and save her. Peeta is desperate to save Katniss just like Katniss is desperate to save prim. The capital hijacked Peeta and caused him to hate Katniss because that was the one thing in life he adored–swoon.
Maybe I think about books too much, but who cares. Peeta is a character I wish I could meet. He is brave in the unusual way. He is strong in the not as obvious way. And He loves in a passionate way.
So, to the boy with the bread whose favorite color is orange, the dandelion in the field, and the painter and baker: you sir, are my favorite.
