I am currently battling a bit of a health issue. It was unexpected and obviously causing me some anxiety (even more than usual, that is). What I thought was going to be a simple blocked sinus issue is currently a rare, slightly serious issue with my trachea. I’m still in the midst of testing and doctors so I don’t have much to say on the issue except that I’m having to really keep my mind on Jesus to refrain from the “what ifs” and the overanalyzing my anxiety can do. This all prompted me to want to share a few verses with you my friends, as well as myself. Today, I’m sharing verses to help calm your anxiety.
As much as I love worship music, there is nothing that can calm my anxiety quite like scripture. There is something so powerful about praying the Word of God over yourself and your situation. I wanted to share a few verses that could help calm you but this post is as much for me as it is for you. I can always use a little more peace in my anxiety-filled life.
I have previously done a few posts like this that you can see here. But I tried to use all-new verses that you can add to your list.
8 verses to help calm your anxiety
Zephaniah 3:17
The Lord your God is with you,
Zephaniah 3:17
the Mighty Warrior who saves.
He will take great delight in you;
in his love he will no longer rebuke you,
but will rejoice over you with singing.”
I think one of the biggest comforts in times of anxiety is knowing that God is always with us. He is singing over us, standing with us, and ready to help us at any moment. We take that for granted way too often, especially in America. He, the Might Warrior, is with us.
Psalm 56:3
When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.
psalm 56:3
A good portion of my personal anxiety comes from not being able to control certain things and the unknown. That is why our trust should be with the Lord. He knows what is going to happen, nothing is a surprise to Him. He is powerful enough to handle every single issue for every single person. We don’t have to be in charge because God already is – but you have to give Him your trust!
Philippians 4:6-7
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7
This is one of my family verses we pray and recite together. We first started using it when my grandma was extremely sick and we were praying for her healing. Ever since then, this is a verse I cling to often in times of distress and anxiety. My favorite part of this verse is that God even asks us to bring our requests to Him. So when I’m praying for my possible procedure, I’m asking for the outcome I want but always knowing that sometimes, His plans aren’t ours. But it is comforting to know that God wants us to bring our requests and worries to Him.
Psalm 34:4
I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.
Psalm 34:4
What a powerful verse. The key there, in my eyes, is the line… “I sought the Lord.” So many times we expect God to just do what we want without even seeking Him or spending any time with Him. This is something I am very guilty of. I can’t expect Him to take my fears away if I don’t seek Him.
1 Peter 5:7
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
1 Peter 5:7
I memorized this verse back in junior high when I was still dealing with anxiety but didn’t really realize that was what it was. As I mentioned, God wants us to lay our burdens on Him. He can handle our fears and our cares…He is stronger than us. He cares for us and wants to help us.
Psalm 94:19
When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.
Psalm 94:19
Have you ever thought about having joy in the middle of anxiety? Only with Jesus. I love this verse because it is so refreshing! Jesus can bring us comfort in joy even in the midst of pain and fear. This is probably one of my favorite verses to help calm your anxiety.
8 verses to help calm your anxiety #anxiety #Bibleverses Share on XIsaiah 41:10
So do not fear, for I am with you;
Isaiah 41:10
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:13 is one of my favorite verses, and I often forget about verse 10 but it is also a great one to recite to help calm anxiety. I love that it says He will strengthen us because there are many times when I am dealing with anxiety and panic that I don’t feel strong at all. However, I don’t need to be because God will uphold us and stay with us.
Psalm 112:7
They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.
Psalm 112:7
As I mentioned above, a lot of my personal anxiety comes from the unknown. Especially after my dad’s sudden death…getting bad news is a huge fear of mine. I couldn’t believe how relatable this verse was when I found it looking for verses for this post. Talk about being written for me in mind. As I am facing some health issues, this verse is going to bring me so much comfort. There is nothing to fear because I am trusting in the Lord.
These are just 8 out of hundreds and hundreds of options that the Word of God holds. What verses help calm you down when you are dealing with anxiety or panic? Let me know in the comments!
