Why do tragedies happen?
We were watching home videos of my sister and I’s childhood and then we were struck with the face of tragedy. The camera was showing people we greatly missed, and people we lost way too soon.
When I was young, my family had some great friends. Long story short, the father of this family shot and killed his three sons and then killed himself. These boys were boys that my sister grew up with. She shared a birthday with one of them. They were innocent, sweet little boys who deserved full lives. But just like that, they were gone. I never got to know them like my family did, but I wish I could have. I still see my sisters face when she sees them on the videos-I can tell she misses them. She was old enough to understand what had happened back then. It breaks my heart every time I think about how their lives were taken.
I don’t know why God allows some tragedies to occur. I don’t know why these boys had to die. I don’t know why and I don’t always like it. What I do know is there is a reason for what happens. God has a purpose and you can turn every tragedy into a situation of hope. Sometime’s we don’t like God’s plan…but we have to remember he knows best. He knows better than us. These boys are now sitting with God in Heaven-nothing better than that. I am thankful for a God that never leaves our sides and comforts us when the sins of this world hurt us. I am thankful for a God that holds us close.
The boys mother has continued living her life and turning her tragedy into a story of hope. I encourage you to check out her blog. She is a wonderful writer with a heart for God that shines even in the midst of heartbreaking tragedies.
Hug your family closer tonight, XO Hilary
